Knightia excelsa, commonly known as Rewarewa, is a species of evergreen tree native to New Zealand.

 

Description:

 

  • Size: Rewarewa is a medium-sized tree that can reach heights of 15-25 meters. It has a slender, upright growth habit with a relatively narrow crown.
  • Leaves: The leaves of Knightia excelsa are dark green, leathery, and lanceolate in shape. They measure about 5-15 cm in length and have serrated edges.
  • Flowers: Rewarewa produces striking clusters of reddish-orange to crimson flowers. The flowers are tubular in shape and have a prominent display of stamens. They are highly attractive to birds and bees and bloom from late spring to early summer.
  • Bark: The bark of Knightia excelsa is smooth and dark brown when young, gradually becoming rough and fissured with age.

 

Growing Conditions:
